you may be having problems with the vacuum booster, have it checked

The brakes grab real hard upon initial foot pressure and then it seems to have a little slack place before you press hard enought to really stop the truck. I know this is a weird discription but its the best I can come to the problem.

sounds like a pressure problem, possibly abs or porportioning valve. Unless the booster is leaking, generally there is nothing that happens to them that influences only front or rear braking...all would be affected evenly. GM has had big problems with abs on trucks for as long as I remember. Personally ABS isn't worth the aggravation it causes and people should just learn to drive rather than depending upon "automatic" anything. But, you have it and should get a competent shop to do diagnosis and repair. Being safe is more important than anything else!!!

The booster just has to be replaced but they dont go bad to much are you sure thats the problem? What is your truck doing may be something else. Brake boosters are very costly..

No the rod on a booster is adjustable but should not be touched if you dont know what your doing.

The white smoke has nothing to do with the brake fluid loss. Look around the brake master cylinder, brake lines and joiners and brakes for signs of moisture. They should all be clean and dry any build up of dirt could be a hydraulic leak. The white smoke is more likely from warn valve guides.

Take Off Nuts That Hold Master Cylinder To Booster. I just bought a 2006 Toyota Tundra with the 4.0 V-6. Some sites say use premium unleade, shile others say regular unleaded. Which should I use - an why? Thanks, John Fitch [email protected]

You can use which ever grade of gas you desire or can afford, but the premium will give you little better performance (more horsepower). Regular shouldn't cause engine ping, but if you do run regular and you do get a ping just add a bottle of octane booster to the next fill up.
