I would check fuel pressure before and after you crank the engine. The pump gets power for 3 seconds during startup - if the fuel pressure has leaked down you would have to crank the engine until the oil pressure came up to get the pump to power up again.
make sure terminals are tight and not corroded if ok then make sure there aint green corrosion in the battery cables however before you do that have battery tested ive seen alot of people have bad battery that was fully charged cold cranking amps it is cold out.
I would chech for spark at the spark plugs a spark checker can be purchased at your local parts store it may even be a tool they will loan for free (Autozone) once you know if you have spark or not we can tell you what to diagnose next.
The first thing is to make sure the battery is fully charged, then check the connections at the battery and the graound cable going to trany bolt, make sure it tight, also ive seen bad starters that start on the bench or with charger , this is a bad starter or low battery or a connection problem.
To test the switch, find the hot wire to that windows motor. press the switch and see if battery voltage is present. 12.6Volts on a fully charged baterry. If not then the switch is bad. If battery voltage is present try connecting a twelve volt to the motor supply wire. see if it runs. If it don't then you confirmed 100% that it is bad. In my experience the switch seem to go out before the motor. So more than likely it is the switch.
You are going to have to replace the fuel guage sending unit in the fuel tank, nothing else will cause this problem that this 20 year Ford dealer tech has seen.
