Why does the ignition light on my 2001 jeep Cherokee 3.7 auto stay on
Which ignition light? There are a number of warning lights on the instrument panel.
It could be the charge indicator, which could mean a bad alternator. Does the battery run down? Check voltage on the battery. If more than 13.8 volts while the engine is running, alternator is OK. Less than that, overhaul the alternator.
It could be the MIL (maintenance Indicator lamp / engine check light) which means the car is due for a service. The light can be turned off by a mechanic, or you could get a DTC reader on ebay and turn it off yourself if you're happy the service is up to date.
It could be the brake indicator light, which could mean either the handbrake is not fully released, or the brake fluid level is low, or the brake pads are worn down. Just some possibilities, give more information.
