Whining (or siren sound) from enging compactment

Either bad brakes on that side or a bad wheel bearing.

indicates a rectifier problem in the alternator
remove it and have it bench tested

Because the whine is still happening at high speed when your in neutral and low rpms it should not be engine or tranny related. I would start looking at wheel related issues. Hubs probably.

That would either be a drive line or transmission or bearing in the wheel hub.

How about alternator bearing,next would be the trans pump,don't want that one,then the steering pump

sounds like a power steering issue. They whine when the fluid is low. Check your fluid level. If it is low, you have a power steering leak. If its not that, describe the sound a little more and I'll try again.

It's most likely the turbocharger. We used to have an Audi with a turbo and it had a bit of a whine when accellerating. A slight siren type of noise is normal for it, but, if it's real loud then it should be checked.

have the center bearing in the drive shaft checked, cold weather can even sound like a faint siren like a cop is pullin ya over, ....
front wheel bearings are somewhat common also

It sounds as though your alternator bearing is about to fail. Take a long screwdriver and carefully place it on the center of the body of the alternator, away from the spinnig fan. Place your ear on the screwdriver handle and listen for any bearing growling sounds. This is most likely your problem.

The run rough problem is due a cyl.mis firing,it becaused buy a bad plug,plug wire,coil,or even the ing.module. the servive eng.light flashing is warning you that you have a cyl.misfire that can cause damaget to your catltic converter if you continue to drive it.with may lead to why you think you have a exhaust problem,it may be colgged.
