To the right (UK)/left(US) and on the dash below the sterring wheel level (near Fog light switch) you will see three buttons A B and Reset. With dash display showing trip millage of the one you wish to reset (A or B) press and hold the reset button for 5 secs.
If this happens, you should see a display in your dash. Either check engine, engine fault, gear fault, etc. The X type has many electrical sensors and grounds. You really need a diagnostic tool that will specify the problem. If you don't have one, take it to a mechanic to give you a diagnostic reading. They ussually charge $25. Could it prehaps have been the traction control kicking in as it can be sensitive in the s-type. Maybe the fact your tyres where wet and you may have lost traction for a breif second the system activatied. It may also be worth having the 3 large bolts that hold the steering rack to the subframe check tightened to make sure that they have not come loose
