How to change a starter

The starter motor on the Nissan Altima is located on the front of the engine and can be changed from the top of the engine compartment. Here's a link for the process: http://www.ehow.com/how_5822553_change-starter-nissan-altima.html#page=3

My 1995 Nissan Altima won't start. Has lights, power etc - tried to boost anyway, with no luck. No clicking like a starter problem. Tried moving gear shift, still not turning over.

Try this : Turn the head lights on , try and start the engine . Carefully watch the headlights , if they dim some what you have a starter problem . If the headlights go off replace the battery . If the headlights stay bright you have an open circuit problem .

If the latter is the case I would recommend looking at the inhibitor switch which is located on the automatic transmission . This would usually be the problem .

1995 Nissan Altima Ignition doesn't turn the starter. No electircal draw down.

Sounds like a bad ignition switch. Located behind the key lock cylinder.

My 1995 nissan altima wont start, it has power but wont do anything when you turn the key. What could be the problem?

I am assuming that the starter will not crank over when you turn the key.It sounds like the starter solenoid is toast.Get a meter and see if there is power to the solenoid when you turn the key.It will be the smaller gauge wire .If you have power to the solenoid and you get no cranking then you will have to replace the starter(they are one unit)

I have replaced the starter on a 1995 Nissan Altima two times (the last time in July 08), and I was just told it needs to be replaced again. Is there a reason it needs to be replaced multiple times?

This may very well be due to the first time that the starter was replaced the heat shield was most likely not reinstalled. Most of the time these don't make it back on because they are a flimsy piece of metal and seem insignificant. That is wrong though. They deflect the heat from the exhaust so the starter does'nt overheat and fail. It sounds like that is the problem here. They can be purchased at your local parts house or in a salvage yard. If yours is gone have them install one. I would bet that would help your problem. Hope this helps. Good luck.
