you should not have to unless it has an adj alternator which I do not think so , you have to push down the idler arm to loosen and push belt on and let it go should tighten
check all of the door sensors. (buttons that are pushed in when doors close) they sometimes come loose and need adjusting.. easy fix once you find the bad one.
Hi Tom, The adjustment of the alternator is carried out by 1) loosening the locking nut which is fitted to the top front housing of the alternator and is fitted parallel to the alternator. 2) loosen the adjustment bolt located on top of the bracket until the belt can be removed and a replacement fitted. If this belt broke then remove the timing covers and check for bit of belt inside around the timing belt before you go any further .its quite easy to refit a new fan belt but they can vary with the year as earlier ones had a manual adjuster but later models are spring loaded so check the timning belt belt first then if ok answer this post and i will scan my alldata book for you as its late and iam going to bed before i fall asleep over the keyboardss
First - I am amazed at the runaround they have given you over this - and all the work they have charged you for.
This seems to be stuck in "limp mode" - which is an electronic basic running mode when it doesn't get all the info from the sensors (of which there are too many on peugeots !)
The most likely to start with is any damage to the exhaust sections - or any catylist fitted. Diesels use them to reduce particulates, and can become blocked - causing backpressure and all sorts of running problems.
The cheapest solution to you is to take it to an exhaust specialist - and ask them to check it.
A bad knock can shatter a ceramic catylist - virtually blocking the entire system.

could be a dodgey starter motor, is the car petrol or diesel, if its diesel id recemend changeing the heater plugs and diesel filter thats if they have,nt been done in the lastyear or more
