Gas filler hose continually shuts off. I can only fill it with gas for a few seconds at a time and then I have to pull it out, re-seat the nozzle in the tank and start again. sometimes if I manually hold it so it barely fills, it will not shut off. I've tried holding the rubber flange down but that doesn't help either. I've had it in the shop three times and they reset my check engine light but it comes right back on.

You have a faulty antirollover valve witch is located in the gas tank.it is stuck in the shut off position.explaning wy you can't put gas in it.
what is the code that keeps setting?
the antirollover valve is a plastic spring loaded ball that prevents fuel spillage from the tank in the case that your vehicle should be upsidedown. these valves have been known to fail ,causing problems refueling the vehicle.

The shop is not fixing the problem, its not venting when your fueling, the vent valve may be bad or ive seen this may times were a siper builds a web inside the vent hose or valve and it doesnt let the vapors vent, causing the gas nozzle to keep shuting off and also check engine light comes on, it only takes testing and a little time to find the problem, sounds like its time to find a better tech to repair your cars, hope this helps.

My isuzu Ascender is giving me problems every time I try to fill the gas tank It shuts down every second so it gives you a hard time to put gas in

there is a problem with the air trying to get out as the fuel is being pumped in . This activates the shut of in the nozzle of the hose . Try holding the trigger just open so that you control the amount of fuel flowing in . Try rotating the nozzle in the filler a few degrees so that the fuel coming back will no activate the shut of system. I have found some pump systems are extremely sensitive to the air/ fuel flow back so I am selective in which pumps I pull up at for this reason. Remember you do no have to pull the trigger full bore when filling as you can control the setting with your fingers.

When putting gas in my 2004 Kia amanit the fuel nozzle kicks off. How do I locate and fix the problem

HI Bridgette,

Due to the different shapes of fuel tank filler necks in cars & trucks, it may be necessary to vary one or more things to allow fuel to flow uninterrupted until the tank is really full.

The main problem can come from the new "vapor recovery" gasoline pumps. These pumps and hoses actually recover gasoline fumes from your tank as the liquid gasoline displaces the air / fumes in the tank is it is being filled. If gasoline flow is started at full blast, it can splash back slightly, causing liquid to be pulled back by the pump - so it shuts off. So, start with a slow rate of filling and gradually increase flow rate to maximum over 5 to 10 seconds. If it still shuts off, try some of the suggestions below.

First, don't fill at maximum flow rate from the pump - that is, don't set the nozzle for wide open. Select one of the other "latches" on the handle instead of the fastest flow and let the tank fill entirely at this rate.

Second, you should experiment a bit with the length of nozzle that you push into the tank's filler neck. If you push it in too far or too little, the pump nozzle can do what you're describing.

Third, try twisting the nozzle slightly so that it doesn't hang straight downward - a little to the left or right may provide a solution.

Lastly, try a different gas station. Their pumps may not be so picky with your tank's filler neck.

Good luck!

My 2003 Toyota Tacoma extended cab has a gas tank filling problem. I can only squeeze the gas nozzle with the tip as high on the filler tube as possible to put in about 1/4 gallon of gas per squeeze of...

Many vehicles have a rubber hose between the filler tube on the body and the gas tank. Check that it's not collapsed or that something maybe got in there and squeezed it partially shut. The rubber tube may need replaced. Please rate this answer, thanks.

Fuel Tank

I have had this problem. For me it's usually when the tank is really empty. I worked at a gas station and at times, I'd have to replace the gas nozzles when they wouldn't kick off correctly.. I suspect the problem is that the gas nozzle is picking up more gasoline fumes that are being displaced in the tank and venting thru the fuel filler opening. The gas nozzle detects enough gasoline vapors with it's sensor to shut-off the nozzle. One can slightly adjust the nozzle in the fuel filler opening (or wait a few additional seconds giving time for the fuel vapors to exit the fuel tank)) and it works great.. I do not believe it is a problem with the Blazer. It's a combination of the gas nozzle and the amount of vapor escaping the filler opening with the displacement of vapor in the gas tank. I've had this happen in my Ford Contour.
I hope this helps others.

Ford Windstar 2001 Gas filling problem

The fule tank vent tube is blocked/clogged. It's the little hole next to the filler hose that invites spiders that clog it up. Blow out the tube and it fixes the problem.
