1987 Buick Century, V6, 2.8L will not start. No spark coming from any Dirct Coil Output. Where is and what is the name of the common component for these individual coils?
The 3 coils are mounted to the ignition module and as long as the sensors that signal the module to fire the coils individually are working I would try a module especially if all 3 coils are not firing..also if you have an ohmmeter for checking electrical resistance, the spec for the coils are 5000 to7000 ohms, measured between each coil from tower to tower (ie) #1and#4 2+5 and 3+6 any more than that and the coils are toasted..lol hope this helps also check the spark plug wires at each end maximum resistance is no more than 1000 ohms per inch,,,good luck

yes but a lot of other things wouldn't be working either such as wipers, dash, charging system etc....and yes the coils are mounted to the ign module,..when the coil is removed there are two tabs that the coil plugs into.. Thats the module that whole assembly with plug for the wire connector and the 6 tabs for the coils..300 to 400 dollar range and most places will no allow return on electrical parts...

When you talk about checking resistance from coil to coil. Are you talking about putting an ohm meter to the ends of each post of the coils?

Coil and plug wire resistance checks are good. Is the ignition mdule physically located under the 3 coils??
Replaced Ignition Module and still "No Joy". Going to check the crankshaft sensor. Is there a check to determine its state, (good or bad) ??
Replaced Ignition Module. Still not working. Removed and cleaned Crankshaft Sensor. Did resistance checks on sensor but I don't know what should be seen. It was not shorted so, I assume its ok. Whats left ECM?
Will be running fault sensor checks Friday or Saturday. Will include comments on findings then.
Coil checks were done from each of the coil posts. Coil was good. Ultimate problems were: Ignition module had a short in it. After replacing the ignition module the vehicle still would not start. I did a resistance check on the Crankshaft sensor. The readings were .4 ohms. I wasn't sure what it should be.Originally I thought it might be good. But, when the ignition coil didn't completely fix it, I replaced the crankshaft sensor and the car fired up.
