Lost radio code, how to reset, 2003 BMW X5 E53 4.4 please?

If you take your registration ducument to a BMW dealership they will tell you the code for free, based on the VIN number.

Or look in the Glovebox for a small white sticker, or in the Owner's manual.

But, I found this

BMW hasn't used a "radio code" since the beginning of the e38/e39/e53/e46 generation of BMWs. That technology ended with the anti-theft radios used in BMWs prior to the aforementioned e series.

The code you see appearing on your nav screen or MID (you didn't indicate which radio setup you have)...is an anomaly of the OBC's immobilizing code probably brought on by the low voltage issues you were having. There have been many threads on this topic across multiple BMW forums in that usually a simple use of "0000" or "1234" works to get past the lockout once the battery issue or low voltage issue is fixed...or initiating the emergency deactivation of the CODE found in the owner's manual.

and this confirms it is the immobilizer code

2002 bmw x5 3.0, changed-out battery & lost audio on radio (factory stock ).visual display ok.

You need to have the anti-theft code put in to make the radio work, this happens when the battery power is lost. Call the dealer or go to www.radio-codes.com

My battery had to be recharged on my 1994, BMW 318... My anti-theft system and radio are not working now as a result, but worked fine before the battery was recharged... There is a CODE msg in the...

When you take the battery cables loose from an anti-theft system, You would place a nine volt (9V) battery across the positive and negative cables to hold the memory chip in the systems. This allows you to remove the battery for a period of time longer than a few minutes. The system (anti-theft) is designed with a couple of capacitors in the system that hold the charge for a few minutes to allow changing of the battery. If the battery is removed for much longer than 30 minutes then the capacitors drain and the memory is lost in the chips.

You are going to have to go to the BMW dealer and have them re-write your system, and it will cost you about a hundred bucks. They have the plug in device that will restore the system and it is not sold to the general public. That is why it is called ant-theft, so if someone steals your radio it quits working.

Our onboard computer sound system for our 323i 1999 convertible says code wait. what do we do?

A radio code is required to activate the radio on your car after your battery has died or your radio has lost power. If you attempt to enter the wrong code multiple times the system will lock you out for a set amount of time. The code can be retrieved by going to your local dealership where they will remove your radio with a special tool and retrieve the serial number from the back of the radio. This process is fairly quick and does NOT require leaving your car there. Your radio will have to be on for approximately 30 minutes before you can enter the proper code.
