I am having the same problem with my 2002 X5. There is a motor or fan running behind the AC control panel on the dash and if I pull fuse 48 it stops and the battery doesn't drain. Still looking for the cause and solution so that I don't have to keep pulling and installin fuse 48. BMW garage suggested that it was the Final Stage Blower Resistor. I replaced this and no change. I hope someone has an answer that will help us both.
Locate the resistor in the Blower system...this has to be defective to allow current to continue to the Blower after the Key is off...Your parts store might be able to help you locate. Hope this helps.
If you do not run even one level of performance as the needed engine control unit, check fuses! If they are okay, the fan is defective! is a frequent defect no only X5 E53 series
should be the orange extended life but if you ever have any doubts auto zone and advance auto parts stores sell a coolant safe to mix with any color, hope this helps you if so please vote
If the blower for the vents turns on and off at will, then the finals stage for the blower has failed. This controls the blower speed, its located on the right side of heater box under the dash. Google x5 final stage.
