Audi A4 1800 1998 4 cylinder
1.No dipstick on the the auto transmission, how do I check the fluid level and how often do I change the fluid?
2.What is the volume of oil in the engin gearbox?
3.Can the cambelt be changed without taking the radiarors out?
Thanks

There's a metal bracket that the plastic tube clips to at the top. The 2 little tabs on each side clip it to the bracket. once u unclip it, it "should" pull straight up. The one I did yesterday broke into a bunch of pieces. I had to break it off and pry the last bit off with a prybar. the new one snaps right down on.

The automatic cars (at least the tiptronics, which came out in 98) require the transmission to be up to a specific temperature, which must be monitored while changing the fluid - this requires VagCom, the VW/Audi diagnostic software (I'm not making this up). I am not sure whether the non-tiptronic cars had to have this as well or if it can be done as any other transmission - best bet is to call a European specialty mechanic and ask them - a dealer will kill you with labor rates. Do not just drain and refill though, without finding out first whether the VagCom procedure must be used.

If its the rear ,or the sometimes called pumpkin. There should be a plug that you have to unscrew .sometimes its a 3/8 drive that's the size in the center of the plug.Once opened you could stick your pinkie in the hole and be able to touch the gear oil.If not you need to top off use the squeeze bottle type of gear oil.Once you can touch oil then its full
