If you are needing head bolt torque it will be 85 ft. lbs. in 20 ft.lbs. intervals.... Start with center head bolts working to both ends of the head utilizing an X pattern....Be sure the head gasket is facing correctly...sometimes marked with the word up. and dowels lined up...Avoid using an extension on the Torque Wrench....Use a deep socket instead....Lightly apply oil to the head bolt threads and under the bolt heads for correct torque reading......There is a formula for arriving at a torque value for a bolt according to bolt diameter and grade...also threads per inch...grade is the number of lines on top of the bolt head + 2....Google It...for the formula............

Install the cylinder head bolts and torque in sequence as follows:

1. Step 1: 72 ft. lbs. (98 Nm).
   
2. Step 2: Completely loosen all bolts.
   
3. Step 3: 26-32 ft. lbs. (34-44 Nm).
   
4. Step 4: plus 90-95 degrees clockwise.
   
5. Step 5: plus 90-95 degrees clockwise.

The 98 Corolla has a "torque-to-distance" spec.

First, torque all 10 bolts to 36 ft lbs (49 NM or 500kgf-cm), in a clockwise fashion, starting with the 2 center bolts.

Second, mark the bolts with a paint mark, and then torque each of the 10 bolts an additional 90 degrees.
