Grinding noise, metal to metal noise in front end. It's not a wheel bearing or brake problem. It sounds like it is on the drivers side in the front end. Is it the differential? High speed shaft?

Your wheel bearings need replaced,just replaced both front ones on my car,Then you will need to have your tires balanced,rotated and front end aligned.Mine was coming from my front driver side,it was loud,replaced,then the passenger side was making a noise,but not as loud,now it is like new.

driving home, i noticed some metal clunking sounds coming from the front driversside. at ... hmmmm....if it's grinding, then probably a bearing.

it could be the wheel bearing if it changes pitch ( the noise changes ) when you turn left or right at highway speeds not touching the brake pedal it more then likely its the drivers side wheel bearing . This is if you have already check the brakes to make sure they are not metal to metal , check the brake pads first.then do the test i just talked about.

sounds like your brakes on that side are metal to metal, tearing up your rotor... when they get this bad, they will make noise all the time and you dont have to be using your brakes for them to grind and roar

It can only be one of two items,the wheel bearing or the brake pads are worn to the metal.you will need to raise the car up to "feel"the bearing fault or take the wheel off to check the pads.(rarely its a stone lodged in the pads,and has the same noise.)

You either have a bad wheel bearing, or a bad brake pad. Does it do this only when you apply the brakes, or making turns, or is it continues. If its only while using the brakes, most likely the brake pads are worn. If it only does this while making turns, may be wheel bearing. Remove the front driver wheel and inspect the brake pad liners. check the thickness of the pads, make sure the pads are not metal to metal. to check the wheel bearing, while wheel is still on the car, put the front of car on jack stands, while wheel is off the ground spin the wheel and listen for any noise that sounds like the sound it was making while driving. If it makes this noise, you then can take a steel tube about 3 to 5 feet long, put it under the wheel and lift up and down on the wheel, and notice if it has any movement or play as you lift it up and down, if it moves, then likely its the wheel bearing.

There are a couple of things to cause metallic sounds when turning. First thing, is if it's a clicking sound when you turn, then you have a cv joint going bad. It's usually more prominent when moving in reverse, however it can happen just as well while moving forewards. Secondly, if it's more of a grinding or scraping noise, we have a couple of options. The sound could be coming from the brakes, if they're worn or have grit stuck in them, or it could be bad bearings in the front wheel hub. The wheel hub has a tendency to making a whining noise when driving; usually most easily heard when driving past buildings. They can also allow the tire/wheel to present the appearance of leaning when looking at it. If bad enough, it can even rub on the brake caliper, or cause the disc brake rotor to wear out the brake pads prematurely. So, to recap: Check:
CV joints, if a clicking sound brakes or wheel hub bearings if grinding or whining sound.

It sounds like a wheel bearing broke a ball or spacer. That would make noise all the time.

could be you brake pads are low, you have a lip (indentation from ware) on you brake rotors have your brake pad linings check and turn your rotors. hope this helps
