  • No 3rd or 4th gear: “3-4” clutches are worn out. R&R. The car is safe to drive (in 2) until you can get it fixed.
  • Trans shifts into gear harshly, car feels sluggish off the line, No 1st, 4th or TCC lockup available, Manual 2nd, 3rd and Reverse are only available gears, CEL is on: Transmission is either in limp-home mode or has lost electrical power. If there are lots of error codes in the PCM, check the under hood fuse that powers the transmission, and if it pops again, look for a short in that circuit like an O2 sensor harness touching exhaust. Otherwise, check PCM codes for a particular fault in the transmission causing the PCM to put it in limp-home mode.
  • No 1st or 4th available; trans shifts 2nd to 3rd by itself in D or OD and locks the converter : Shift A solenoid failed. Easy fix in the pan. Or a wiring problem from PCM to trans.. or PCM.
Check to see if your transmission is in the limp mode, which would only give you 2nd, 3rd and reverse gears. No 1st or 4th gear.

4L 60E - 2002 GMC Envoy will not shift into 4th (Drive)

If it indicates on the dash as being in D, but you never feel it shift out of 3, the problem could be as simple as checking your transmission fluid level and top off as needed or a bent linkage that prevents the transmission from engaging D. Try setting the shifter between N and D and see if it shifts up out of 3 to D. If that works, the linkage between the shifter in the cabin has been loosened or bent. This should be a relatively easy fix for your mechanic.

If when checking the transmission fluid level, it is found to be brown or smells burnt; it may indicate a larger, more expensive repair. Transmission fluid should be pinkish / red in color and smell like hydraulic fluid or oil.

my Chevy C2500 has an electronic actuator / solenoid in the front differential they burn out frequently. They electronically lock up front differential. I bought a manual actuator from a 4X4 shop for $250.00 no more problem and no worry that if I had bought another electronically operated one it might burn out way back in the outback

2001 jeep grand cherokee exhaust smoke whitish color.runs great sounds great, smoking is not continuous ,kind of pale in color, and is using oil.

Hello. yes, you are burning oil resulting in the white smoke. Try a heavier weight oil in the crank case, or an oil additive specifically for high mileage, oil burning vehicles. There are a number of them on the shelves at any auto parts store. J.

4L-60E trans interchange

Sorry it will not work, the internals are the same but the transmission housing has changed. The key distinction of the Later 4L60-E (1997-2006) from the Early 4L60-E (1992-1997) or 4L60 (1990-1992) or 700R4 (1982-1989) is the six-bolt "hex" rear output or tail-housing / adapter pattern. The previous versions featured a four-bolt square bolt pattern at the adapter or tail-housing. Additionally, the removable bell-housing is also another distinguishing feature.

Two-wheel-drive versions have tail-housings and typically a longer output shafts than four-wheel-drive versions, which have various adapter assemblies and a shorter output shaft.

It should tell you on the Shifter whether or not that you can Shift on the Fly. Check the Manual first if there is one in the Truck. Some Models had this and some Did not. Was an Extra from Factory Option.
