My caddy deville dhs 2001 cuts off power when driving at any speed or stopped, radio & lights stay on. Battery light switches on too. When stopped and put into park, can turn car back on right away.

Stop Lamps

The STOP LP fuse in the rear fuse block supplies battery positive voltage to the normally open stop lamp switch. When the brake pedal is pressed, the stop lamp switch contacts close and battery positive voltage is supplied to the center high mounted stop lamp (CHMSL) and the turn signal/hazard flasher module stop lamp switch signal input. In response to this input the turn signal/hazard flasher module supplies battery positive voltage to the left and right LED tail lamp assemblies. The CHMSL and left tail lamp have ground at G402. The right tail lamp has ground at G401. The stop lamps illuminate when they receive both power and ground.

p0071 is the ambient temp sensor which is located by the hood latch behind the grill. They have the yendency just to go bad and you can replace the part for about 30.00 dollars. The dealer is usually higher than a transmission shop. It requires removing the engine and transmission at the same time which means removing the complete frame. A smaller shop may be able to beat the price if you can find one that works on caddies. Some will and some won't. I would shop around.

Hello: The back up lights get 12volts through the neutral safety switch. This is mounted on the top of the transmission on the drivers side. The switch could be out of adjustment and or failed or the wiring could be bad. To check te wiring disconnect both connectors on the switch, turn key on engine off apply park brake put transmission in drive and check to see if the reverse lights are on.

Its possible your car have corroded Wires in the system and needs replacement, have it checked by a qualified car electrician.
