If you are just dropping the pan and changing the filter it will probably take aprox. 4 maybe 5 quarts. I would add 4 and check it befor adding more . Just dont actually put it into gear until you know the fluid level is correct. Make sure to give the fluid enough time to get out of the dipstick tube so you get a accurate reading

Transmission slipping in 95 blazer

You could try a transm. drain and refill and replace the fluid filter while doing so. When you drop the transmission pan (after draining), check for how much metal shavings are in the pan. There should be a magnet on the pan to collect shavings. If it doesn't look like too much, you could proceed with the filter change, then replace gasket for pan and put pan back on, and refill transm. and try it. Sometimes a fluid and filter helps, sometimes not if damage is too severe.

Transmission seal leaking in 96 cavalier

replace the gasket on the pan, while you have the pan down it wouldn't be a bad idea to put a new filter in, just be sure to use the specified trans fluid when you fill back up and to get the specs for how much correct

My tranny slips some times but it will catch after a few min

SOUND LIKE TRANSMISSION FLUID LOW OR YOU NEED A TRANSMISSION FLUID AND FILTER CHANGE.THE 4T40E OR 4T45E IF YOU DONT SEE TRANSMISSION DIP STICK.BEST TO DO A FILTER AND FLUID CHANGE.YOU NEED 7 QUARTS OF TRANSMISSION FLUID A NEW TRANSMISSION FILTER AND PAN GASKET.I WOULD BUY FILTER AND PAN GASKET AT DEALERSHIP.YOU NEED A LARGE DRAIN PAN TO CATCH TRANSMISSION FLUID.IF YOU HAVE A TRANSMISSION DIP STICK. BEFORE YOU FIRST BEFORE STARTING THE ENGINE CHECK TRANSMISSION FLUID LEVEL ON DIP STICK.SHOULD BE ON THE FULL MARK.IF NOT ADD FLUID TO FULL MARK.THEN CRANK VECHICLE LET IDLE UNTIL ENGINE HOT OPERATION TEMPERATURE ABOUT 10 MINUTES.THEN APPLY BRAKE PEDAL.THEN SLOWLY SHIFT TRANSMISSION SHIFTER THROUGH ALL GEARS 2 TIMES.THEN PUT TRANSMISSION IN PARK.CHECK TRANSMISSION FLUID LEVEL.IF NOT AT FULL MARK ADD TRANSMISSION FLUID UNTIL LEVEL CORRECT.

How to check transmission fluid in 2000 cavalier no dipstick or fill tube

It has a plug in the end of the case by the passenger side cv shaft. Start the engine and remove the plug. Fill the trans thru the fill cap until oil runs from the hole. Let me know if you need more info. The transmission is a 4T40E Right? 4 speed?

Could i be getting the 2-3 shift solenoid code if i havent changed the fluid in it or filter i got it at 96,000 miles and now it has 146,000 miles.1996 cavalier 2.4

It's very possible. Crud builds up over time due to the heat in the transmission. A fluid flush and filter change is a good idea. You may end up doing it twice - automatic transmission fluid is a great detergent and new fluid may dislodge crud inside the transmission, which will fill the new filter and clog it. Swap it out a second time and you're golden.

I have a eclipse 96 I tried to repair the

did you change fluid and filter this is just as important as an engine oil change. also a automatic transmission has things called bands that change the gears and hold overdrive in they also need adjusting every 30,000 miles. if not they will cause your transm, ission to slip. and burn up atf fluid.
