Engine stalls at any rate of speed on my honda accord

  • Anonymous May 11, 2010

Does it particularly do so under load (climbing a significant hill, or when sharply accelerating)? If so, you might have a failing fuel pump, or a clogging fuel filter. Of course, there could be many other possibilities, but I would have the fuel pressure checked (especially under load).

Could be the Ignition Switch. 1999 Honda Accords are known for having defective ignition switches installed, which Honda issued recall. Check with a Honda dealer to see if your model is part of the recall group & qualifies for replacement. I’m currently on my third ignition switch, this last one I replaced myself.

Honda Accord torque converter random lockup

The PCM controls the power and ground to this. Power is constant, then the PCM will ground it at certain speeds, with other factors from the engine sensors. If it locks at different speeds and stalls the engine, I would look at the wiring harness first. Look for any kind of chaffing. If the wire hits a ground from chaffing it will energize the solenoid. But the pressure solenoids would also have to be in certain positions for this to happen. What exactly does it do, to make you think it is the TCC lock up?

1998 Honda Accord engine rumbles and stops

rumbles?, did the RPM drop below 800 RPM? that is called idle failure
and when it does, idle can go to 400 rpm and will shake hard.
and is normal for illegal idle speeds. so post that first.
post that engine stalls
and that the RPM is 400-500 just before the stall.
then post if the fast right foot can save the stall (a key test !!!!)
if easy the ISC is sticking.
if tad hard the EGR is stuck open'
if impossible to save. then more possible (many)
ever do the 60k mile tune up this decade????,. if not why not./ now.

Troubleshooting a 1998 honda accord

If it is has an automatic trans, and it stalls when you put it in reverse or drive, it could be the idle air control valve.
You would be able to speed up the engine with the gas pedal to keep the engine from stalling if this is the case.
The computer should bump up the idle speed when the engine is under load by controlling the air going into the intake.
If the engine stalls suddenly it could be the torque converter clutch.

I have an 89 Honda Accord lx and it idles too low

The idle speed for my 88 accord lx is 700-850 rpm for standard idle speed. The stalling is a seperate issue. When were plugs, wires, air/gas filters and distributor last checked? How long has engine been running for when you stall? Is the temprature gauge high? Any lights coming on when stall occurs? I am not a mechanic, but a DYI'er. These are common questions I am always asked when troubleshooting my Honda. :)

91 honda accord cut off

Here are the most common causes of surges, stalls at stops, low erratic idle speed, rough idle and engine hesitation (and other problems), it is in most cases the idle speed control air-bypass valve and or throttle valve and upper intake, these area's get full of gunk and combustion residue over the miles and cause idle issues (stalls, low idle) like yours, Get a can of intake cleaner from any local parts store, not carb spray, intake cleaner, it is made by a company called CRC, remove the air intake hose to the engine, hold the idle high so the engine won't stall, then spray the can of cleaner into the intake while keeping the engine running, use at least 1/2 the can, shut down the engine and disconnect the battery for 5 minutes, then restart and complete a number of mixed driving cycles, town, freeway, stop and go etc., after a few days the problem will go away as the system will relearn to the clean intake

2002 Honda Accord - slow engine start and jerking

Most likely a dirty idle speed control system follow the guidelines below to clean it.

Throttle Body Cleaning on vehicles without electronic throttle control (most 2003 and down)

You can in most cases repair this slow speed stall or unstable idle by cleaning the engine throttle valve and the idle speed control valve using a product called CRC Spray Throttle valve cleaner. Spray the cleaner into the air intake of the engine with the hose removed from the throttle body, the engine will try to stall so hold up the idle speed manually. Once you have used up about 1/2 can of the cleaner stall the engine out while spraying and turn the key off, disconnect the negative battery cable for 5 minutes and then reconnect and drive the car for a about 25 miles of varied driving modes. If this doesn't cure the problem you may need the fuel injectors professionally cleaned by the dealer service dept.
