1984 Jeep CJ7 heater core leaking. '93 inline 6 motor. Wrangler dash. How to I remove the core?

its in the heater box.
and the box is in the dash
so, the box needs to be removed.
then box split (screws)
then replaced,
the FSM covers this,
ive posted this over 100 times here.

if they have replaced it 3 times and still can't get the leak stopped
A. It not the heater core something else is leaking

B. there using a used heater core (which is my opinion is plain . . stupid)
C. the mechanic has no idea what he doing
First thing they should have done when car was brought in the 1st time was check for other leaks if it is the heater core still leaking the mechanic is installing it wrong or not geting hoses tight. the actual changing of the heater core takes only about 10 minutes and actually a easy process that anyone could do. What takes the most time is getting to the heater core because the majorly of the time the whole dash has to come out which takes hours

I would take your car somewhere else and have it fixed right and have them bill the dealership for the repairs

If it is necessary to remove the heater assembly, the cooling system must be drained before removing the heater core.
When a heater core leaks, a new heater core is installed or the old one repaired.
Heater Housing

• The heater housing is usually under the dash and must be removed to gain access to the heater core.
• Procedures for replacing the heater core vary with the year, make, and model of car. It threfore necessary to consult the manufacturer's repair manuals for the proper procedure for replacement.

The heater housing is disassembled to get to the heater core. Heater Core

• Remove the access panels(s) or the split heater/air conditioning case to gain acess to the heater core.
• Remove the heater coolant hoses.
• Remove the cable and/or vacuum control lines (if equipped).
• Remove the heater core securing brackets and/or clamps.
• Lift the core from the case. Do not use force. Take care not to damage the fins of the heater core when removing.
• To reinstall the heater core, reverse the removal steps.

When the heater core leaks and must be repaired or replaced, it is a very difficult and time-consuming job primarily because of the core's location deep within the firewall of the car. For this reason always leak test a replacement heater core before installation.

If you have a heater control valve on the hoses going into the heater, make sure it's working. Heater core can be plugged, most times they can be cleared by removing the hoses to it (not at the firewall...it's too easy to break the core extensions) drain it and fill it up with white vinegar.(keep the hoses higher than the core) Leave it sit about a half hour and run a garden hose through it. Last but not uncommon is that a vacuum motor that operates a door inside the heater plenum can be bad or the door itself can jam. To remove the heater to service either the core or any of the doors etc is generally a large job that you would need to get a manual for. (most of dash needs to come apart) Hope you find the problem before it comes to that!

1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Drain cooling system.
3. Disconnect radiator and heater hoses from water pump, Fig. 21.
4. Remove drive belts.
5. Remove fan shroud and fan.
6. Remove water pump attaching bolts, then the water pump and gasket.
7. Reverse procedure to install.

I have a 1993 Jeep Wrangler YJ...My heater core needed replacement when I bought it about a year ago. I made the mistake of taking apart the dash to get to the heater core. DO NOT DO THIS!!! It is actually 4 screws that you must take out from the inside of the engine compartment on the firewall. Then it will come right out. Have fun!!!

They work on the same principal, so as long as the amps and volts match up on the switch they should.however you will have to "eyeball" the size to see if the newer one will adapt right.
