Sounz like the turbo or waste gate may be giving you problems. Check to see the waste gate on the turbo is closing properly.

Knocking in cylinder head of escort 1.8 lx td

Hi

Engine knock, if it is coming from low down in the block, is usually caused by worn big ends, and is more pronounced at idle or under load.

Diesels, however have the added bonus of being able to create a nice knock due bad fuel atomisation, overfuelling, or excess oil burning.

Bad fuel atomisation is usually caused by dirty injectors.

Excess oil burning is usually caused by a worn turbo amongst other things.

Very best regards

Geordie

Check the injustion pump for volumn. It sounds like it is supplying to much fuel to the injectors.

Ford escort 1.8 td 1996 altornater removal

Hi there!

Usually have to take wheel arch cover and wheel off, then pass it out from below.
Take all mounting bolts out first.

If this solves the problem, please rate as Fixya! thanks - otherwise I'll find more specific info. Thanks.
