Heres two diagrams for aligning the timing gears for timing belt, this is for a 1999 rodeo with the 3.2 engine, hope this helps,one diagram is for the cams and the other is for the crank gear,

I dont know how many times you tried turning it over with it being out of timing but to many times will kill the compression so be careful with it. Most of the time when I need timing marks I go to chiltondiy.com

and the engine 2.2 L 4cyl. SOHC, single over head cam.
The angibe 2.3 L 4cyl. Is DOHC.
