The temperature gauge on my 2002 grand prix dose not go pass 160 even when car has been running over 30 minutes and no warning lights come on, what are the possible reasons?
The temperature sending unit on a 97 grand prix 3800 gt(which is also the coolant temperature sensor) is not accurate. the sending unit part of this sensor only sends info to the guage on the dash. the coolant sensor part sends info to the computer of the car. it is located under thermostat and somewhat difficult to get at. i had put a brand new one in and my temperature on my dash is all over the place---even with good thermostat and properly bled system. when i hook up a scanner to my computer, the coolant sensor is sending the computer(ecu??) what seems to be the right temp. anywhere from 194 degrees to 217 when hot. the guage however on dash go from 160 to 260 in less than 2 minutes.
I have same problem start my 2002 grand prix gt and within 10 seconds the temp gauge shoots to max temp. I changed thermostat and had it heat gun tested works fine. replaced my temp sender unit and same thing happened so i thought was a faulty unit so i bought a new temp sending untit still within 10 seconds go's to max temp reading. unpluged the sending unit and the temp guage go's to lowest degree. blead the cooling system and still same problem. everything worked fine b4 i changed my own head gaskets now this is what is happening after all back together. runs great and starts up just my temp reading is messed up.
Sounds like you have a struck open thermostat.
The top radiator hose should not be warm/hot when you first start the engine-that is if the themostat is any good.
Dear friend- i"m not sure what you question is but let me try to explain,if your car is not overheating but you are concernt why the vehicle is running cold there is an explenation,should the fan come in to early it means that the temp sensor has been changed to a lower temp switch,if the thermostat has been removed then it will also be difficult to get the engine to normal opperating temp.

If
all voltages checked ok, then most probably its faulty instrument cluster board
on which gauges are connected. Yes if cluster circuit board looks ok, then also
it can be faulty. Somewhere there is minute short or burn on board then such
problem arises.
Also
check the fuse box. One under hood and other under dash.
Inspect
each and every fuse and see if all are fine or not.
