Newer cars use 10w-30. Buy 6 quartz of oil. After you change the oil. Put in about 4 quarts. Start the engine let run for a few seconds, turn it off, then measure the level with dipstick. Top it to the proper level.

Oil change

I own a 2005 Xterra Off Road and if yours is an "Off Road" model, you have skid plates. Your oil filter is located behind a little door on the bottom of one of the skids. Two screws hold the door on. As for the oil pan, it is most likely just hidden by a skid as well. It will be on the very bottom of the engine.

Oil capacity for my 01 nissan x terra

The 3.3liter motor requires 3.8 quarts of oil. 5w30 should be a good oil for the extreme conditions required in your climate. Most new car manufacturers now recommend 5w30w so that says volumes - hope this helps!
