If it is just when starting and blue smoke it will be valve stem oil seals or possible valve guide wear leave ticking over five mins then rev up if it smokes and clears that will confirm it assume you have checked there is not too much oil in engine

First of all what color is the smoke. blueish smoke is oil. white smoke is water or coolant. if the head gasket is blowen you could check your oil with the dip stick. if the oil is way to full the means that there is water in the oil and oil floats on water. the also sell a kit at your local auto store to test your coolant the see if there is exhaust gasses that have entered you coolant. that kit is for when you have a small leak.

It starts won't idle white smoke out tail pipe been sitting 2years

The white smoke indicates cooling system fluid getting into the combustion chamber. Pull the spark plugs and if water or antifreeze comes out of any of the spark plug holes you have a cracked head, head gasket bad, or the block is cracked

My 2005 gmc canyon just started blowing smoke out tail pipe but it doesnt do it everytime i start it. is this bad?

Possibly a leak in the head gasket. Take out the plugs and see if they are water wet. Run a compression check.

Signs blown head gasket

Hi there:
Pay attention. here is the most common symptoms a Blown Head Gasket are:
- Your car is overheating. You know it's not the Fan or Thermostat.
- White Smoke is coming out of the tail-pipe and it smells like Anti-Freeze being cooked.
- The car won't start:
* You have already verified it's not an Ignition System problem because you have Spark coming out at all of the Spark Plug Wires.
* You know it's not a Lack of Fuel, because you have verified that the Fuel Pump is delivering Fuel to the Fuel Injectors.
- The Engine Oil is thick and tan to off-white color.

Hope this helps.

I need to change the head gasket on my 4 cyclinder tacoma it is getting radom miss fires

we usually replace head gaskets when there is an overeating problem or leak problem, if you saw coolant in the spark plugs or if the misfire come with a thick white smoke from the tail pipe, then this is reason enough to do the head gasket job.

for random misfire we got spark plug wires high resistance,
weak coil,
bad fuel,
weak fuel pump.
bad injectors.

It is over heating but not smoking from front or back. i had a man look at it and he said when he took the spark plugs off coolent was shooting from it does that mean i have a blown head gasket

Hello chlon_bolden: My name is Roger and I will offer some information. If you have anti freeze blowing out the spark plus hol? You have serious problems. You should have a very bad misfire in the engine and white smoke out the tail pipe. Either the head gasket is bad or worse case the head or heads are cracked and/or warped. The only way to tell is to remove the heads and inspect them. All of these are expensive. Should you need further help please just ask. Please rate the answer. This way I know it was of use. Thank You for using Fix Ya. ROger

Having trouble sttaring cold takes many attempts

white smoke points to a head gasket issue, If your coolant is low and smells and looks weird then get the car tested to be sure.
