Right rear wheel is played out to the side.

My wife just got home, backed the RAV in and heard a 'clunk' and it appears that the axel or supporting hardware has failed and the wheel is splayed out to the side.

Front or rear wheel?
i suspect the front and with power steering it is possible to snap the connecting rod of the steering mechanism it will need replacement and re-allignment the car is not longer driveable and will have to be transported to the garage for repair. it was either weakened at some previous point if one wheel gets trapped by a bollard or a wall or in a rut in the road then one day it will just go like that. it is not the wifes driving it is the car being used for what it is designed for a bit of rough.

Hello. if you have a noise when driving and turning it will be a cv joint. but if the noise is there all the time going down the road more than likely a wheel bearing. cv joint today are cheaper if you buy a rebuilt axel for the side with noise. you must remove the axel from the hub, then pop it out of the tranny. best if the car is higher on the side you are taking the axel out of. then you will not loose all the fluid. but it is best to be ready to put the new axel right back in the tranny. make sure it is clean, no dirt on the splines.

Heard clunking from front end when 4 wheel was engaged and now no 4 wheel drive

if your truck has cvaxels which is only if it is independent front end your cv axel is bad. if you have straight axel it sounds like you have a bad universil joint its right behind your hub where the brake system is check both sides

Rear end??

No not both sides. The rear end of your car has a normal standared rear axel. it has many seals but if the ones at the wheel hubs on the outside of the axel behind the tires are leaking it would only show on one side or the other. Also most leaks in this area is due to a bad wheel bearing.

The rear Drivers side axel has play.

I would certainly replace the axle with play. But this may not be all. Could be wheel bearing as well.

Front end clunk

If it's a constant clunking noise it might be the cv joints, a one time clunk would indicate play between the steering rack and and the wheel somewhere, probably on the lower control arm, meaning the bushes are either very worn, or not present anymore. It could be the bushes on the swing-arm aswell. Best bet: Jack the car up on the right side and grab the wheel, **** it around abit, and check for play.Hope that helps!

Front wheel seems about to fall off

It sounds like the Bearings are out on that Wheel. You Could have caused damage to the Spindle in addition. Not a Cheap Fix by any Means. Check the Bearings and Spindle for Breakage.

Rear wheel axel Ford F150 2002 how do I dismantel it to check if it is a bearing, making a clunk sond , parked as it has gotten, worse. I have very little money and I would like to fix it myself.

check for a propshaft UJ worn first vehicle up in air wheel free then grasp front and rear of each joint in turn and give it twist ,iam pretty sure this has gone and not the pinnion/crownwheel.
