After switching the ignition off and openinig the driver side door, the radio will not turn off automatically. The radio will turn off if the passenger side door is opened. Also the interior lights do not come on when the drivers door is opened. I could not locate the door switch. Switch possibly bad!!!

sounds like the ignition lock is worn out.

hmm. you have automatic daytime lights? really people need to look into this issue. there are 2 power sources. 1 is always hot. which will be the battery lead the other will be power lead to ignition or automatic daytime running light. if your in your car turn on the ignition and shut it off. radio should still be on until either A. the door opens on drivers side or daytime lights shut off.

look inside the rubber boot between and near the boot that goes from the door and the door jamb for broken wires all the circuits you are having a problem with are in there

is it a cavalier or sunfire in the door there is a dome light switch this allows you to listen to the radio or put thwindow up or down for 30 to 60 seconds sometimes the door switch shorts out on the drivers side you can test by taking the pass door switch and change for drivers door if not a short to body modual

check wires that goes true door into front door post
they may be pinch or brocken they may even be unpluged from door or under dash

Check all 4 doors to see what works and doesn't work, be sure the interior domelight switch is set to turn on automatically when any door is open as well try the radio then open the 4 doors to see if it turns off...if your driver's side door don't work as you stated then that should be the door's "at fault".

GM built the door contact switch that's installed INSIDE the door-it's located inside the door striker/jamb area...it require removal of door trim to gain access.

However, you might want to try this visual inspection:
Check the thick wire harness located between the front-left door and door sill frame to see if any wire has been disconnected/cut or tampered with by previous owner.
