I have a 2007 Pontiac G5. When the lights are set to auto and the sun is out, sometimes there is a delay with the DRL system. I know there is a delay because my instrument panel is illuminated and might not darken. For instance, today I was parked in the shade and then I drove out onto the highway, drove for 15 mins, and then finally the instrument panel darkened. Normally, it should take 5 to 10 seconds for this to happen. Also, I reported this issue and had my car examined today. The issue could not be duplicated. Anyone have an idea whats going on?

All of these issues are electronic, you need and auto -electrician that know his way around his $5,000 Pro Grade Scan Tool computer. A mechanic is not the person you need, oil changes, new brakes, new exhaust, engine tune, sure..
Yea, take it to a qualified repair shop ! Could be anything , and with out doing some test couldn't make a suggestions .
Headlights/Daytime Running Lights (DRL) Circuit Description
The instrument cluster controls the headlamp systems that include daytime running lamps (DRL). The system allows the headlamps to operate at a reduced intensity when all of the following conditions apply:
• The engine is running.
• The transaxle is not in the PARK position.
• The normal headlamps are not on.
The instrument cluster turns the DRL system on by grounding CKT 592, thereby energizing the DRL relay. This action allows a reduced voltage of 6 volts to flow across the headlamps. If the vehicle has the optional fog lamps, the fog lamp relay will also be energized. The park lamps will turn on and the fog lamps will operate normally. When the headlamp switch is turned to the ON position, the instrument cluster allows normal headlamp operation.
The instrument cluster also has an input from the park brake. If the park brake is in the ON position, the DRL will remain disabled until the park brake is placed in the OFF position. On vehicles with an automatic transaxle, the instrument cluster will disable the DRL until the transaxle has been taken out of the PARK position.
Have you had vehicle check for DTC'S diagnostic trouble codes . Check fuse's an relays , find wiring diagrams to see what controls these systems ?
Radio/Battery fuse , fuse G 10 amp located in the right instrument panel fuse box . Do you know where this ?
Fuse Block - Right IP - On the right side of the instrument panel
An there is one on the other end of the instrument panel ,driver side .
Fuse Block - Left IP- On the left side of the instrument panel The fuel an temp . gauges not working is probably the step motors inside instrument cluster . GM had problem with this 03 to 06 . How to repair GM Instrument Cluster Speedometer Gauge Stepper
Daytime Running Lamps (DRL)
The ambient light sensor is a light sensitive transistor that varies its voltage signal to the body control module (BCM) in response to changes to the outside (ambient) light level. When the BCM receives this signal it will either turn on the daytime running lights (DRL) or the headlights. Any function or condition that turns on the headlights will cancel the daytime running lamps operation. With the headlight switch in the OFF position, the headlights will either be turned ON or OFF, after an approximate 30 second delay depending on whether daylight or low light conditions are sensed. The HTR A/C IGN fuse in the underhood junction block supplies ignition positive voltage to the daytime running lamp (DRL) relay coil circuit. The DRL relay switch contacts are connected to the low beam circuit. When the headlamp switch is placed in the OFF position, the BCM will either turn on or off the daytime running lamps, depending on whether daylight or low light conditions are sensed. The BCM energizes the DRL relay, closing the switch contacts and grounding the low beam circuit. Ground is provided at G101. The DRL illuminate the low beam headlights at a reduced intensity. The DRL will operate when the ignition switch is in the ON position, the gear selector is not in the PARK position and the parking brake is released. When these conditions have been met and the ambient light sensor indicates daytime conditions, the DRL will illuminate.
DRL operation in Manual Transmission equipped vehicles will occur when the ignition switch is in the ON position, and the parking brake is released. - check fuse's an relay first.

I'm having the same issues.
I'm unable to drive if daytime running lights is set to auto. It'll run after starting it on auto DRL, however when shift gear to drive and giving it some gas, it powers down the entire vehicle.
I have to turn light switch to on position in order to drive the vehicle at all. ???????????????
DRL function is built into the body control module. If your car doesn't have DRL, you'll need to do a full reprogramming on the BCM. Not feasible. Plus, adding HID to halogen headlight assembly is a horrible idea and *******. Are HID kits legal Ricks Free Auto Repair Advice
You could replace the sensor or try disconnecting the DRL control module .What relay was replaced ? I see no relay on wiring diagrams or in service info. Replacing the Daytime Running Lamp (DRL) Ambient Light Sensor isn't hard . Just take the top dash pad off ,easy .
Removal Procedure
Remove the instrument panel (IP) upper trim. Refer to Instrument Panel Upper Trim Pad Replacement in Instrument Panel, Gages and Console.
Remove the security system LED. Refer to LED Indicator Replacement - Vehicle Security System in Theft Deterrent.
Twist the DRL sensor counterclockwise in order to remove the sensor from the IP upper trim.
Remove the DRL sensor from the wiring harness.
Removal Procedure
Remove the windshield garnish molding. Refer to Windshield Pillar Garnish Molding Replacement in Interior Trim.
Important: Remove the upper trim panel slowly, the retainer clips could possibly fall into the instrument panel.
Lift the instrument panel (IP) upper trim panel approximately 51 mm (2 in) and pull rearward to release the retainers.
Remove the DRL ambient light sensor. Refer to Daytime Running Lamp (DRL) Ambient Light Sensor Replacement in Lighting Systems.
If equipped, remove the sun load sensor.
Pull the windshield garnish molding from the A-pillar in order to disengage the retaining tabs and clips.
