Check this first, check the tps sensor and make sure airfilter is clean. because a bad tps has an effect on how tranny shifts. if the tps is going bad it will send the wrong info to pcm. if that does not fix it. remove and clean maf sensor. also check plugs and wires,

Check every battery connection. That's all the cables and connections to starter, alternator, engine block, etc. Have alternator checked it may be failing when it hits that particular RPM
it sounds like your oil pressure light. ( light illuminates red) I would check the oil level in the motor, if o.k. check oil pressure with mechanical gauge at sending unit located on engine. If oil pressure above 18 p.s.i. at idle, suspect faulty sending switch. If pressure low, possible oil pump/regulator, cracked pick-up tube, bad engine bearings.
If timing chain has failed, the engine will usually turn over faster than normal (first clue) You can also check distributor rotor to see if while cranking it turns normally and does not "stutter". Additionally compression will be very low. Not knowing which engine you have, I'd suggest you check the basics...fuel, spark etc, to make sure your'e not randomly guessing at the problem. A computer code check would not be a bad idea either!
