1260 code wont start cranks - 1999 Ford Taurus

The first thing that you must do here is to have the systems computer checked for fault codes, it should have a few in memory. the codes are read through the diagnostic port under the dash.

No where in the DTC - description does it say anything about replacing any modules . An does not have anything to do with a communication problem ! You need a professional grade scan tool to communicate with the PATS system ! An if you don't know these thing's you better take it to pro !!!!!!!
P1260 - Theft Detected - Vehicle Immobilized Indicates that the passive anti-theft system (PATS) has determined a theft condition existed and the engine is disabled. This DTC is a good indicator to check the PATS for DTCs.

Theft indicator flashing rapidly or on solid when ignition switch is in the ON position. Check anti-theft system for DTCs. Typical vehicle symptoms are: Start/Stall or Crank/No Start. NOTE: No crank symptom only on vehicles equipped with PATS starter disable feature

Are you saying it cranks good but won't start or won't crank? Any codes? If it cranks most likely the ECM relay in the IPDM.

is there any pause between flashes? you need a scan tool on an 02 vehicle for that kind of problem. codes for pcm are not single digit. so now it begs the question... how did it get in a flash mode? perhaps the allpar website is a good place to seek data. but you need to decide if it cranks but wont start? wont start, wont crank? or cranks, start -die allpar could have tsb data for you. or the public library, i look cars up on mitchell database there and get recalls/tsb's as well as pinpoint tests for codes.

Does it crank and wont start, or does it not even crank over when hot? If it still cranks, if the starter cranks the engine over, then check for spark when it won't start. If you have no spark, something in your ignition system may get hot and fail-something like the crank position sensor, or the ignition control module.

Well, if it won't start the check charging system will be displayed because the alternator is not moving.
Code 1000 is saying the ECM can not finish a system test, also because the engine is not running.
Code 1260 is saying there is a problem with the security system and the engine is disabled. The computer thinks someone has tried to steal the car.

ok, any obd code means the sensor concerned is not detected by the ecu, or is way out of range of the normal signal the ecu expects. I would therefor check the electrical path between the sensor and the ecu terminals, it may be just a chafed cable or wire.

P0336 means Crankshaft Position Sensor A Circuit Range/Performance. Try replacing the crank sensor next.

what is the code number?? you may need a new crank angle sensor. common problem. car will not start without crank angle sensor signal/input. find out what the code is and post. if code number you get is P0335, than install new crank angle sensor.
