About 4 months ago our 97 Lincoln Town Car air suspension would not raise the rear of the car, although the pump was running. I started visually inspecting the system by jacking it up and it started working again. It has been working finesince, but just went out again with the same problem. The pump runs, so I know the leveling sensors are working, but suspect the air release valve for the system is stuck. Does this sound plausable and if so where is it? Is it part of the compressor? Thanks

Why won't rear end raise up ?

I have a 2000 Lincoln Town car, had the same problem, it was the rear air suspension/shocks. They are air bags basically that levels your car and it cost about $300.00 for each at the dealer for parts and install but it also has its own motor that inflates and deflates these air bags and I also had to replace that and that cost over $400.00 installed at the dealer.

Rear air suspension on 90 lincoln town car won't raise when air compressor pump is running you can hear a hissing noise at the rear drivers wheel when you jack the rear of the car the air bags inflate not...

Some of the Vehicles with Air Suspension require the Pump to be shut off , before you lift the Wheels, off the Ground. The hissing noise indicates the bags ruptured and need replaced, at the very least. If there is an air suspension Cut-off, it is usually right front Kick Panel Location. If not you made need to pull a Fuse. Without a Manual, you are kind of hosed. Buy a Manual , for around $30, at the Local Parts Store.

How to replace back shocks on 97 Town Car

The shocks can be replaced individually or in a pair and without replacing anything in the air suspension system. Just remember to shut off the air suspension before raising the vehicle and then support the rear axle. I know I have done a few of these, also done the grand marquis, too. I'm not sure which was which, maybe even the same way, but you may need an air hammer with a very long chisel bit to remove the top nut. If you don't have this, well, good luck.
