This might not have anything to do with the timing. The valves are not adjustable.

how many miles on it? are there any codes ?

It sounds like you're having problems with the transmition sensors or you may have a catalytic converter that is going bad. I would have it professionally diagnosed.

I'll bet your local dealer has an illustrated parts breakdown which would tell you and have a big box of the most common fasteners for the whole car.

try turning ur idle up its the pin on the throtle body just make sure u tuen the engine off and on again fter each adjustment to reset ur computer on ur engine

if this is happening in park or neutral that is normal its called a rev limiter

sounds like the electronic speedometer cable, look around the trans for any wiring that may have gotten burnt

If you took the M.A.S. (Mass Airflow Senor) off check to see if you put it backwards. Its has a arrow and shows you which way it goes. Hope this helps.......

Have you changed your filter lately?
This is what happened to my car as well. I live in woody area and we had a very big fire in October 2007,(yeah it was California) and because it was winter I did not notice until Summer hit.
Also if it was changed to late there maybe stuff inside of the blowers.

Cost. Depending on the filer you would like to use ( reusable or not) I would save about 20 dollars just to be safe.
Cost for the checking the hoses and stuff, I am not sure, but if you know anyone in the mechanical buss this is the time to ask a favor because you know that they will give you an honest result and tell you how much it should cost. Or ask a friend of a friend kinda thing. Trust me I live in San Deigo, CA and we get a big bill for small things, but because we don't know the people. It is worth it in the end to know of someone.

Sounds like you have vapor lock. I had that same problem in another car (different make and model) that I owned. Unfortunately there is no fix for this as its merely condensation happening in your gas tank. Maybe some authorized gas treatment from Kia?
