How can a kickdown cable be hooked up wrong if its connected to the tranny and the throttle body on a 1992 crown victoria

The cable that is attached to the tranny has to go up to the throttle body and be hooked up to your throttle linkage.It has to be hooked up properly for it is a mechanical tranny

I had a similar problem with a subaru. Disconnected battery for a while to reset computer. Made sure everything was connected then reconnected battery... started right up. This was caused after replacing head gaskets, I tried starting with T/B unplugged. I realize it's not the same vehicle but might be helpful.

On rear of throttle body. There is a 2 wire connector and a big tube that goes from it to the air cleaner, it looks like a little motor and it is held in with 2 bolts

the neutral safety switch is on the metric tranny with wires coming out of it up to the engine

Replace the cable with one from your local auto parts store or dealer.
It may be for cruise control if your cruise control no longer works.
Or, it may be for the accelerator pedal.

It has it's own fuse and the connector where the cable connects to the throttle body has been known to hop off check to see that it's connected and also pull on it to see thats connected on the cruise unit end.. If the check engine light is on the curise will be disabled by thecomputer. if the cruse has a vacume hose at the break pedal and an electricl switch at the break pedal too they get knockedoff and the vacume hoses at the unit and where they connect ot the engine.

there should be a kick down cable coming from the tranny to the tbi, this is probale out of adjustment, or the tranny is having issues, this can be fixed by losing the cable. now take the throttle and open it wide open the cable should click. i would think that this truck should have the 700r4 tranny

Check the starter solenoid. Usually mounted on a fender well. Find by following the + battery cable.

there should be a cable that runs off the throttle body

I had the same problem until I cleaned the throttle body--Problem went away.
