My 1998 chevy astro transmission surges, but not all the time, plus the po440 error code is on, are these connected. and I am still getting a po300 error code. I replaced plugs wires and cap and rotor twice. better stuff the 2nd time. what gives.

P0440 will not effect the way it runs. check the coil and ignition module, common on these vans, and p0300 related.

2000 chevy astro van 4.3 v6/I changed dist.cap 4 times in 1 year rotor too/runs rough,hesitation,bad ildeing,could it be dist.gear /shaft are worn/got code po300

code p 0300 is random/ multiple misfires
each p 0300 code ( 0301,2,3,4 etc) indicates the piston at fault
this code can be from electrical , ( cap plugs wires etc ) but is mostly attributed to problem injectors and ecm injector controls --wiring and connections
check the other areas for the fault as you may be concentration on the wrong area

1999 chevy siverado 4.8l diagnostic tester says i have po300,po121,po122,po440,p0449,po452 and gm p1639

Maybe.
Codes 121 and 122 are for the throttle position sensor circuit.
Code 400 is EGR and codes 449 and 452 are for the EVAP system.
Code 1639 is for a problem with the 5 volt reference circuit from the engine computer.
The throttle position sensor could be failing which could prevent the gas pedal from working. And the 5 volt reference problem could shut down the computer which would kill the engine. EGR is an emissions component and EVAP is the system that vents gas fumes from the gas tank.
Codes are only a guide for a mechanic to troubleshoot the circuits involved. They do not mean a component is faulty.

I have 3 codes on my 1998 6cyl.chevy malibu.po300,po440,and p1676 or pl 676 (can't read my sons writting)any way do these have anything to do with putting gas in car.maot of time i have to stick a coat...

Hi, the fillup issue is probably a bad evap vent valve, but could also be the purge valve. I would remove both and test them by using jumper wires to the battery. The codes 440 and 1676 indicate the evap system.
The code 300 is random misfire. This is not usually related to evap issues, especially if you are having issues at highway speed. I would fix the evap issue first, though and clear the codes. , See how it runs after that, and if it still runs bad, please see my tip at http://www.fixya.com/cars/r6715318-causes_gasoline_engine_misfires . These are genericinstructions. If you get stuck or need specific instructions for your car, please get back to me with model, year and engine info.
vent valve is hooked to the canister near the fuel tank: jturcotte_1829.gif

The purge valve is on top of the engine:

I replaced the transmission on my 1998 Chevy Astro Van.

If you put the transmission in neutral, there are two notches on the switch that will line up to adjust the switch correctly.
