Dear friend-if there is no visible leak then i think you should pressure test and look for leaks,if no leaks is found then look at the heather tank if you overfill the bottle it will push the excess water out that is normal
also check the radiator cap,if it holds the pressure

My vw Passat windows keep steaming up the front passenger floor is wet does that mean the heater matrix has a leak also losing a tiny bit of water

Probably heater matrix is leaking - using the demist often makes the window misting worse, at least until the the car and engine is thoroughly hot. Often those with a keen sense of smell recognise the odour of hot antifreeze, sometimes described as spicy like pig-meal or gravy-like.

1998 VW Passat 1.8T is hard to start then idle is too high

Check the engine code. If It is P0103 then your mass air flow sensor is messed up. Also the wiring on the 1.8T deteriorate easily. Finally, you might have a vacuum leak. Check the hoses in and out of the intake box.

VW Passsat - 98 -

ABS and coolant are unrelated unless there is a problem with the ECM (engine control module) or instrument panel. Is the red coolant warning sign for coolant level or temperature?

With ABS if there is any failure with any brake electronic component (sensor, motor, or fluid level etc) the ABS will shut down completely and flash the light. If the light is on or flashing the ABS is non functioning.

I need better information on the coolant and ABS to give better information.
