Is it possible that when you ran out of gas, you pulled through all the muck that was swashing around at the bottomof the tank? Seems likely to me that IS the case. Best to get the fuel system cleaned out completely.

I have had simmilar, is the fuel pump delivering fuel?
Is the fuel filter clean?
Are you getting a good spark on all of the plugs?
Have you got good cyl compression?

check wireing harnes to fuel pump that yr and model were prone to going bad and causeing fuel pump to kick off and on at wrong time

Have you run the car without fuel? There must not be any air in the fuel line... Blead the fuel line of air and try to start it. There should be bleader screws under the hood....

Check for timing gear problems. They have plastic teeth on the cam shaft gear which will shatter causing it to jump time.
