If the problem is the speedometer does not work, and if the gauges are ok, you may need a speedometer.

I have a 1996 ford explorer and the speedometer only works half the time. What could be the problem?

There is a problem with these electronic speedometers, but 1st have the fault codes read and see if the speed sensor has set a code, if it does have a code for the speed senor replace it, if there is no code for the sensor the speedometer is defective and needs to be removed and send out to a Ford electronics repair center.

91 speedometer and miles

I have a 91 Accord. When I purchased it, the speedometer did not work. I replaced the VSS (Vehicle Speed Sensor) and the speedometer started working again. I paid $24 for the sensor on ebay. The local part stores wanted $150. It's an easy fix. It takes about 20 minutes to replace.
