If you mean the change oil soon light............ Open the fuse panel; on the side of the dash by drivers door. turn on key but not far enough to start car.
Press the red reset button in the fuse panel until the oil light flashes , release the button and then press it again.
It has been a while since I have done this on an alero , so if you have your owners manual , it might be a good idea to read the instructions in there incase i have it wrong. By the way , the low tire pressure light works the same way.

How to reset anti-theft on a 2000 alero

The security, antitheft or lock picture/icon is a visual indication that something in the car's antitheft system is failing. In most GM cars and trucks there is a hidden system that most people are unaware even exists. From the moment you put your key in the ignition, there begins a constant line of communication between your key's security chip or transponder, to the ignition's lock cylinder, and then to the car's TDM (Theft Deterrent Module). These 3 parts are in CONSTANT communication. If the key is in the ignition, then these parts are sending signals to each other. The security light illuminates when that signal gets broken, even just for a second. When the signal breaks, the car misinterprets this as an attempt at theft and goes into antitheft mode. The car thinks its being stolen or hotwired because it is not getting that signal from YOUR specific key. This is why the security light turns on and shuts down your vehicle. This link explains it pretty well.

I got an alero 2000 how do reset for checkengine and change oil lights??

On the drivers side there is a fuse panel, you will need to remove the cover and there you will see a reset button. Turn the ignition switch to on and then press the button, the light will flash, then press and hold the reset button until the light goes off, this will also work for the TPS system. Hope that helps

I just replaced the starter in my 2000 olds alero and now it wont start it keep flashing securty....it thinks it is benig stolen....how can I fix this

Most likely you replaced the starter because it wouldn't crank over. If this is correct and the security light was flashing before replacing the starter, then most likely you have a problem with the pass-lock system. If your ignition cylinder is located in the dashboard, you will need to remove it and replace the passlock housing.

Change oil light

After you change your oil you must reset your system to start tracking your next oil change. Simply take off your fuse panel cover. There is a red button in there marked RESET. To do this simply turn your ignition switch on (not started). Then press the RESET button once. You will now see your Change Oil Light blinking. Hold down on the button until you hear it beep. Turn off your ignition switch. Now start your Alero, the light should be off.
