I have a 98 Cadillac Catera. The problem is when I turn the key the car doesn't turn over.I think it is the switch because lights & gauges are staying on with key turned off. I can jump the starter with the key out of the ignition & it will start & run fine but not turn off. If not switch maybe rod.

GM has a known problem with their Ignition Switches, Ignition Cylinders.... That is where I would start. The Hard Turning tells me that it was an internal failure

I will say you have a faulty headlight switch, That switch works in phases as you turn it on each click operates another set of lights.

· System LED will illuminate
· After approximately 10 minutes system LED will switch OFF
· Switch ignition OFF
· Wait 5 seconds
· Switch ignition ON
· System LED will illuminate
· After approximately 10 minutes system LED will switch OFF
· Switch ignition OFF
· Wait 5 seconds
· Switch ignition ON
· System LED will illuminate
· After Approximately 10 minutes system LED will switch OFF
· Switch ignition OFF
· Wait 5 seconds
· Start engine
· New master key now programmed
· Erase stored trouble codes
· Replacement parts caan also be programmed using diagnostic equipment
· NOTE: The vehicle learns the key transponder information on the ignition switch transition from OFF to CRANK. Ignition must be turned OFF before attempting to start the vehicle
· Insert master key into ignition switch
· Switch ignition ON
· Switch ignition OFF
· Remove master key
· Within 10 seconds insert new key
· Switch ignition ON
· New key now programmed
· NOTE: A maximum of 10 keys can be programmed using the master key

radio with no sound is the radio interface in the trunk next to the amp..i just fixed one and that was the problem $5 at junkyard..not speedometer and dash lights all on is your ebtcm have it rebuilt new there $2000

I just fixed this problem on mine. Its the switch under the dash on your brake pedal. There a 2 switches, the bottom one is for the cruise control, the top one is for the brake lights. Change the top one.

It is a white or beige looking ring around the key switch and its why the key is recessed in the column so it enters the reactor ring. If you remove the top and bottom halves of the column cover, you should see it.

Both headights may possibly be burnt out if the dimmer switch is not defective.
