Likely the TPS.. those cars were notorious for chaffing or breaking wires. The 02 code is likely a result of the bad TPS. Or, having a bad tps may have even clogged the sensor.
intake air sensor? there is a air sensor on the air cleaner box, there is a mass airflow sensor on the rubber hose to the throttle body, there is a idle air control on the throttle body that looks like a little black motor,
the shift linkage to transmission may be out of adjustment. on the chevy malibus the tps ( throttle position sensor ) has a big effect on how tranny shifts. check tps first. it is on side of throttle body, at the throttle plate.
both codes refer to the throttle position sensor, the sensor is at the throttle plate, on the side of the throttle body. to test remove the connector to sensor, use a ohms meter to test. put 1 lead to top connection and the other to the bottom one. move throttle and the needles on the ohms meter should move very even, move throttle slow to get a good reading, needle should move without no hesitation, if the test is bad replace tps sensor. if the sensor gets to bad, it can have an effect on transmission shifting. after fixing sensor have the light turned of with an obd2 scanner.
There is no idle adjustment to be made on your car. The throtle position sensor takes care of it. The voltage at the tps at idle should be around 1 volt. if it's out of range check wireing if wireing checks out replace tps and idle should be correct.
po-120 is--tps/pedal position sensor A curcuit malfunction. po172 is---system to rich (bank 1). po120 means that the tps is out of adjustment or it is bad. for po172 after you repair tps, it may be ok, if not change front oxygen sensor,
