There is only one serpentine belt in your car. The belt's usually last much longer then 2 years, best thing to do is go to a parts store like Auto Zone or Parts Source and they can inspect the belt for you and show you how to inspect the belt. It's not the out side that you inspect, but the inside where the ribs are. Inspect the ribs for cracks or missing ribs, you can also maintain the belt by purchasing belt re-conditioner. The re-conditioner will keep the belt from getting to hard and cracking and give you longer life, Auto Zone can also give you the step by step instructions for you to replace your own belt if you need to. Good luck and hope this helps.
These belts are designed to last 100,000 miles but very seldom to you get that out of them it varies how often it needs to be changed but you can figure atleast 35-40 thousand miles then id keep check on it at every oil change hope this helps you.
Serpentine belts typically last approximately 4 years or 40,000 miles. If you have put that many miles on in two years, it may be time.
If you trust your mechanic, follow his/her advice and replace it. If not, get a 2nd opinion.
You also may want to confirm it is the serpentine belt and not the timing belt. The timing belt is very important to keep maintained!
I just replaced the belt on my '05 Dodge Grand Caravan...it had the original belt and it just rolled 140,000 miles. It had some cracks in it, but amazingly it really didn't look too bad. About to take a trip and thought I might ought to change it.
I am getting sick of replacing belts in my Toyota. I have put more
belts on my one car in seven years - than ALL of my other vehicles in my entire lifetime - I am 69 years old.
Oct 04 - replaced Serpentine belt - car was only 1 yr old.
Nov 06 - replaced v-ribbed belt
Dec 08 - TENSIONER that HOLDS timing belt in place $244.30
June 09 - replaced Serpentine belt (again)
Now - July 11 - another belt is making a racket.
I LOVE my Toyota - but will never buy one again - as replacing the belts - and upkeep of them - is never ending.
