Do your brake lights work? If not, Check to make sure the brakwiring is connected. Turn signals and brake are electricaly associated. Good Luck, -Ned_

Hazard lights won't turn off

You can not just cut a wire and have the turn signals still work. You need to have the turn signal switch replaced.

87 pontiac fiero ignition will not start when turning key into start position how ever will start when i push it down hill

Neutral start safety switch. It's a Rube Goldberg white plastic contraption above the clutch pedal. It can be replaced, but many people bypass it by connecting the wires. Of course if you do that it (the car) will jump if you (or your child, friend, valet, etc.) forget to put the clutch in before starting.

It may also be that your ignition switch is out of adjustment. This can happen when the car is unusually hot or cold because there is a long metal rod that connects the key to the actual switch. Temperature changes cause the metal to shrink or expand, maybe just enough so the contacts don't line up as they should. Adjusting the switch is just a matter of loosening and moving ever so slightly, but getting to it involves removing much of the dash.

The ignition pushrod, as it's called, may be binding. You may be able to free it up by spraying some WD-40 or similar lubricant between the dash and the top of the steering column using that long plastic tube that comes with the WD-40.

Getting a jump or using a jumper battery might work because the contacts are probably very close, so a little extra voltage might be enough to make things work normally.

Whatever you do, don't go wailing on the key because it can break. Parts inside the steering column can also break. You don't need that drama.

Try replacing your flasher unit. It is located below the dash board.

I don't know where the signal light flasher is located the signal lights don't flash

Your vehicle has 2 flasher relays. One for the turn signals and one for the hazard lights. The turn signal flasher relay is located on the drivers side, under the dash, mounted on the drivers (Left) side of the steering column. The hazard flasher is mounted on top of the steering column. Do not get them mixed up.

1999 pontiac grand am - loud buzzing sound when I turn on the turn signal. Turn signal lights are lit (on) but steady, they do not flash. If its the turn signal switch - where is it located?

ON THIS YEAR 2 THINGS ARE USUALLY THE PROBLEM. THE TURN SIGNAL SWITCH OR THE HAZARD SWITCH. IT DOESNT HAVE A FLASHER. THE FLASHER IS INTEGRATED IN THE HAZARD SWITCH. ITS ABOUT 20 BUCKS FROM THE DEALER. THE TURN SIGNAL SWITCH HAS TO BE REPLACED AS AN ASSEMBLY. THE COLUMN COVERS HAVE TO COME OFF AND THE WHOLE ASSEMBLY NEEDS TO BE REPLACED

No turn signals or hazards???

Check the FLASHER unit; the turn signal flasher is mounted in a clip on the right side of the steering column support bracket. The hazard flasher is located in the component center, under the instrument panel, on the right side. Replace the flasher by unplugging the old one and plugging in the new one.

Hazard flasher -->> The Flasher is located: Front seating area, passenger side, under dash, below glove compartment, mounted in fuse panel

Turn signal -->> The Flasher is located: Front seating area, driver side, under dash, mounted on passenger side of steering column

Good luck (remember comment and rated this).

I have a 87 blazer s10... the turnswitch /wiper/highbeam switch is broken and is shorting out my brakelights ..i cant seem to get to it.. took the steering weel off but ..?

Unfortunately there are some special tools required you will need to get to the turn-signal switch. Below is the procedure for replacing the turn-signal switch. Generally you can rent the puller from a local auto parts jobber or you can purchase one.
Good luck, let me know how it goes.
Regards,

Many vehicles use a turn signal switch that is separate from the multifunction switch. The steering wheel will have to be removed to gain access to the turn signal switch on these vehicles. The following procedure is a common method of turn signal switch replacement:
  • Place the fender covers on the fenders.
  • Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  • Remove the steering column trim.
  • Remove the horn pad from the steering wheel.

  • Remove the steering wheel and horn collar.
  • Use a suitable puller to remove the steering wheel.
  • With a suitable compressor, compress the preload spring to the lock plate. Compress the spring only enough to remove the snap ring.

  • Use a pick and a small flat blade screwdriver to remove the snap ring.
  • Remove the lock plate, horn contact carrier, and spring.
  • Remove the bolts at the upper steering column support and the upper mounting bracket from the column.
  • Disconnect the turn signal wiring connector.
  • Wrap tape around the wire and connector.
  • Remove the hazard warning knob from the column.
  • Remove the switch retaining screws and remove the switch.

Both turn signals do not work on 87 mercury sable

The fuse block is usually located on the left side under dash or behind a small cover on that side. If the fuses are ok change the signal relay, after that the signal/light switch on the steering column.
