To me without looking at your car, it does sound like a starter problem. A possible starter solinoid on your starter. Better to replace the whole starter.

When engine won't start check battery voltage with a volt meter, at least 12 volts.check connections at starter. and yes rapping the starter with a hammer is a good starter test. when replacing the starter make sure the mounting surface is not painted. that is were the starter gets its ground, clean starter and engine block with sand paper etc..

Hard start cold, fine rest of day

I would be checking to see why there is power to the pump with the ignition off as this is a source to flat battery overnight.. May be a relay is still activated by a power source other than the ignition.

Car would not start this morning ( clicking )so fitted a new starting motor ..car started first time but the reverted to the clicking on subsequent attempts to start the car ...battey fine etc ..advice...

Don't assume your battery is fine. Just because it measures 12-13 volts doesn't make it fine. You need to test it under load and see if it holds 12-13 volts under load. If you don't have the instruments to do that, try jump starting the car with cables connected to another running car. If it starts normally, your battery is bad. If it continues to "click", you have a dirty connection in the battery wire circuit. Remove, clean, and replace the terminal connections.

Why won't my 2008 Chrysler Aspen start?

You have 2 issue going on. Its not seeing a valid key,and it is starting with the remote.Your remote entry key did it happen to get wet? Or moisture get in? Lock the vehicle up using the key. enter the vehicle using the key fob. After the vehicle unlocks you have 60 seconds to enter the vehicle insert the key in the ignition start it up.Your remote start up is out of step.

Truck ran fine set for an hour or so come back would not star 3 attempts waited for a little while cranked up. went out this morning would not crank up 5 attempts.Notice batt. was dragging went and had it...

Most of your discription would indicate a bad starter,
if your talking about the engine turning over or cranking

Some people call a no start or no ignition, a not cranking
situation, which is a wrong statement.

You may have a bad fuel pump, if the motor turns
over but won't start.

Starting problem for 1999 Lexus GS300

make sure the air filter lid has been put back into proper place, if they left it loose the engine would **** more air while trying to start, so you need more fuel to balance it out.

1999 Chevy S10 cranks but wont start

A very common problem on the 99 S10 is a leaky fuel pressure regulator in the intake plenum. What happens is when the truck sits for a few hours or more the regulator leaks all of the fuel in the fuel injection system into the intake air plenum. This does 2 things, 1 it has no fuel pressure when starting and 2 it floods the air intake with raw fuel. Sometimes if you turn the key on wait 3 seconds then turn key off then turn key back on and just turn key to crank starter for a split second and wait 3 seconds.do this 3 times to repressurize fuel system then crank to start(you will hear fuel pump buzz each time you do this.also you may have leaky fuel injectors. Try to crank engine with the gas pedel to the floor. This will tell the computer to stop spraying fuel trhough the injectors and it will start. Joe ASE Master Tech
