My 1992 Subaru Legacy 2.2L 5-speed manual trans was idling while I was doing mainrenace. There was a lod screech from the trans and the engine stalled. Pushed in the clutch and the engine starts but I can no longer go into neutral or switch gears. Seems to be stuck in 4th or fifth. Worth replacing a part or is the whole trans dead?

I would say that a bearing froze up or something along those lines. So its not dead but you cannot split the case so finding and replacing it would be loads of fun.

Where do i find the list of codes for a subaru for find out the problem

Goggle something like this: 1992 Subaru Legacy ECU Codes or 1992 Subaru Legacy failure codes. Including the engine size like 2.2L may help as well. That is the best way to find any engine code.

1992 was obd1. trans is manuel. idle is ok. stumble is under 3000 rpm. Oxygen sensor?

Bad coolant temp sensor is telling ECU engine is warm when it is still cold. Kind of like running with no choke function. Easy fix.

I am removing the motor out of my 97 Subaru legacy its twin turbo 5 speed manual // question ??? do you have to unbolt the fly wheel or does it all come out with the transaxal if it does have to be...

The flywheel does not need to be removed, the clutch actuator does. That is if you are only removing the engine. I have found with this engine, it is easier to remove both the engine and trans at the same time while bolted together, then separate the two on the floor. If you are going the separation route you will find the actuator near the starter with the clutch slave cylinder attached. This engine trans setup uses a pull type clutch. If you do not disconnect the actuator that pulls the clutch away from the flywheel before separating the engine from the trans there will be problems.

Really bad screeching sound coming from drive belts

Make sure the belts are tight. When you press firmly on the belt in the center of the pulleys it shouldn't flex more than 1/4".

My subaru legacy auto losses its overdrive and

could be a TCU fault (trans ecu) or a bad speed sensor (there are 2) on the trans.

Need to replace clutch

hands down the trans...under optimal conditions I have done this repair in under an hour. If you were to remove the engine for this repair you are going to struggle aligning the input shaft from trans into new clutch plate when re-assembling. The trans is so light weight a jack is not entirely needed at all and no fluids, coolant or oil would have to be drained as well.If the exhaust Y pipe comes down without any bolt removal problems ,you are basically home free but do remeber to drive out the roll pins in the DOJ (transmission side axle joint)

What oil would i use in my 1992 Legacy Subaru? It is an AWD

cold climate 5W-30W, hot-moderate climate or long commutes at high speeds 10W-30W, these engines are designed for light oils,(very tight clearances) heavy oil's can starve the main and rod bearings of start up lubrication..
