Maybe slow, cold start, air control valve or,possibly normal for temp in morning,I live in Australia and cars can take ages to slow down in winter eg1 to 3 deg cel...and very quickly warm up in summer..eg....idle slows down in 1/4 time, have a look at the car if you can park it in warmer conds... to see if its quicker as Toyotas do this normally for fast warm up,lastly has it been well serviced...looked after??

The temperature guage on my Honda 2000 keeps going right to the top after about 8 - 10 miles when I am driving at normal speed.

Don't drive the vehicle until you get the vehicle checked. Running a engine that is overheating can do serious damage. By serious I also mean Very expensive!
Did you replace the thermostat in the cooling system when you replaced the coolant.
Try this simple test.
**Note** You need to put your hands near the engine when it is running. BE CAREFUL you do not touch Moving or Hot parts of the engine.
With the engine Cold, open the bonnet and find the very large black hose going to the top corner of the radiator. -Carefully touch the hose. It should be cold. Start the engine and let it idle for 5 minutes.
-CAREFULLY touch the large hose. It should be starting to get warm. Let it idle for another 5 minutes.
-Again CAREFULLY touch the large hose. It should be HOT to the touch.
If the hose does not heat up the thermostat could be faulty.

My suzuki vitara 1997 has a idling problem starts ok then warms up and idel gets ruff 400 to 800rpm will run ok then run ruffly..

1: tune it up this decade?
2: EGR stuck open, the EGR main is well hidding behind
the intake man, at fire wall
it must not stick open
it can screw up 10 ways from sunday
but cleaning it is a 50k mile service point, in the opr guide.

400 rpm is usually EGR caused
it must NEVER be open at idle.

Engine reving on start

Hi there,

When cold, modern EFI engines are designed to idle higher, until the engine warms to operating temperature. The idle should then return to around 700rpm.

If your engine still revs at 2000rpm after warming up, then there is a problem with the fuel/air mixture, or a possible air or vacuum leak.

In this case, your vehicle's computer will have stored the appropriate fault code/s. Have your codes read by your local Renault dealer to determine which circuit is the cause.

Grand vitara stalls when cold and runs fast when warm

This problem is commonly caused by a dirty automatic idle speed control valve and throttle valve but always run a OBD2 fault code as well as the cleaning procedure. Buy a can of throttle valve cleaner (do not use carburetor spray cleaner!) from NAPA or Carquest (made by CRC chemicals) and spray it into the air intake while the engine is running, use up about 1/2 the can, engine will try to stall hold the speed up, shut it down and let it soak for 30 minutes, restart and blow out the remaining fluid, shut it down and disconnect the negative battery cable for 5 Min's to reset the base idle control

I have a 1990 Tracker. When cold it idles very high, 2300 RPM, then goes to a surging idle as it warms up< 1400 to 2000RPM, then after it is warm it idles nicely. How do I reduce the idle when cold...

sounds like the idle air control sensor is bad or it could be the idle speed control sensor(module) both can be found on the throttlebody. but to be sure you can take the car to auto-zone and they will run a free diagnostic even if you dont have a check engine light there still may be a code stored.

Cold idle stays on too long

Has it always behaved the same? It has sensors that detect engine temp, outside temp, humidity and altitude to give you the perfect fuel air mixture for the conditions. 1300 to 1500 rpm is not unusual for cold engine warm up. You could have a bad sensor, but the codes should have revealed that problem. 10 minute warm up is not outside the norm. at idle, but 7 miles driving should make it happen a little sooner. As for the the stick moving when you "get on it", that is normal engine "torque", your engine mounts give just a bit to allow movement and to keep that "torque" from being transferred to the body/framework of the vehicle. You have hard rubber mounts. As they "fatigue" you will notice this movement increasing slightly.

Fast idle

I have a similar problem which seems to stop ,if after 20 mins of driving or warmed up engine if you stop for 10 mins the revs die to a more normal 1500 revs! it is a spanish car now living in theUK I think the problem is choke related.
