Check that the alternator and charging circuit is actually working. You can do this with a voltmeter across the battery terminals. Check the value with the ignition off - you should see 12.1 and 12.5 volts. Then start the engine and leave it on idle - you should see between 13.8 to 14.2 volts. Watch the voltmeter as the gas is pressed down. With the engine revving around 2000 rpm the voltmeter value should increase up to something like 14 to 14.2 V but not increase any further with an increase of engine revs. If you see voltages of 14.5V or above then the voltage regulator needs replacing.

Note that if you constantly see voltages of 12V or less with the engine switched off then the battery should be replaced as it will not hold charge and gradually drain down as you are experiencing to a point where it will not turn the car engine.

If you don’t see any increase in battery voltage, or the battery voltage falls, when the engine is switched on then either the alternator or the voltage regulator need to be replaced.

If check engine light not on steady.... May be hard to find problem> One thing to look for is throttle plate coking/dirty.This will cause a problem with the base idle and cause stalling at stop lights and while slowing down. Have throttle plate cleaned and decarbed if it looks dirty

My car keeps stalling everytime I stop or slow down but starts up straight away after it has stalled?

The vacuum hoses have probably started cracking at the turns. If there has been any under the hood work done, sometimes things get pushed on or moved and the rubber hoses on the vacuum system will get old and crusty and crack. That cause the car to die when it slows down to an idle, like at a stop sign or stop light. then it starts and runs normal until the next stop sign.

Coming to stop eng light comes on for split second motor almost stalls than motor surges up returns to normal but sometimes stalls.when it stalls out it starts back up and light goes back out. thanks Bill

Is the check engine light on? If so, have the fault codes read with a scan tool. Most autoparts stores provide this service at no charge. It sounds to me like a faulty throttle position sensor, but it could be something else. The codes will tell you more surely where to begin looking. Hope this helped.
