When cold to warm, everything is fine, but when hot, after a long drive, all forward gears are fine, but when you try to go into reverse, the trans acts like it is in park, except that the engine. is ''loaded''. If you shift in and out of reverse, eventuality it may go into reverse and backs up just fine. the problem started ''out of the blue'' with no warning. The trans is in a '97 motorhome with 31k mi. oil was changed (not flushed) about 3k mi ago. Any ides? Andy

if all forward gears are dead, and the manual lever works.
the trans is bad.
try with TCM unplugged to trans.
and all forward gears dead,
with no TCM , 1st gear must work, it must move.
unplugging it , prevents any TCM wrong doing.
and only the internal manual valve now works,
does it?
I would check into the Trans oil temp sensor, they are known to keep the trans from shifting into 4th gear if they have a open or a shorted circuit...This may also be the culprit for the other issues you are experiencing when the trans is at diff temps and doing diff things....The other thing that is known for going bad in that Transaxle is the Sunshell...The splines on the inside of the sunshell strip out and than you will lose pretty much all forward gears,Except for 1st gear most likely and you will also lose Reverse if the Sunshell goes bad...But this will not act any different if the temperature is cold or hot
Thats not good ! I suggest that the truck be started and warmed up a while. Then try to drive it around a bit in the yard or where ever. If that doesnt work out the suspected clog, then I would roll under the truck and look to see if something hasn't eatten away at the wire harness for the trans.
hi . yes you can add a tran cooler.and most cars have them. they are usely in front of the radeater.it would be a good i dear to chang the tran oil . and when you do add louc tran oil trement it will halp with the tran shifting ok.and heating up . good luck
This is a common problem. You have a cracked forward clutch piston. Ford made this part out of aluminum. The replacements are steel. But you have to disassemble the transmission to install it. ( I know you said Rev too, In the AXODE trans, the forward clutch is on in 1st and reverse)
