I have a 2001 VW Passat wagon with monsoon system, the CD player has just started acting up. It will recognize and load a CD, play until we hit a bump, then stop and say either 'cd error' 'no disc' or 'check changer.' I can usually get it to eject the disk. Any suggestions? I'd rather not get a new system if its servicable.

could be time for a tune up also check the spark plug holes for oil if the valve cover gasket are leaking into there can also have a bad coil if the check engine light is on have it scanned at a auto parts store (most do it for free)the code can lead you to the bad cylinder exp code p0301 is cylinder number one p0306 is cylinder number six and the same for p0302-p035
Take all safety first and make jack in front and take car up (chk both tyres) By hand role the tire if thires noise that mean u have bearing problem If not u have to change tyres
might check the catalytic converter and sensors. I had the same problem and had to replace 2 catalytic convertes in the front of my 2001 VW Passat wagon.
Hi
Its probably not really worth repairing such an old system.
I would replace it with something more modern with better sound and control.
CD s are kinda out these days when most of your music and nav are on your smart phone .
However, you could remove cd player, remove covers and using cotton buds and solvent, gently clean the pickups for the laser.
Its probably full of crud.
Good luck

just replaced my 2006 Pontiac G6 GT Monsoon 6 CD changer with an identical model pulled from a totaled car.How do I reprogram it so it works on my car.
Metra makes a preamp harness that you can use if you have the partial Bose system. My A4 had that (where the front speakers were run off of the headunit with speaker-level feed, but the deck put a line level signal to a rear amp to power the speakers). This harness would let you use the aftermarket deck with your factory speakers, if you have the partial Bose system. Best bet is to do a Google search for "Metra 2001 Passat" or something like that and I'm sure it'll show up.
