I am sure that you know that the battery light has little to do with a faulty battery!
It tells you that the battery voltage is low - or that the battery is powering the vehicle (meaning that the charging system is not working).
First- place a voltmeter across the batter terminals. With the engine off, record the voltage.
Start the engine - record the voltage.
Increased voltage (14 or so volts) with engine running tells me that the alternator and the regulator are operating correctly.
Less voltage (12 or less volts) with engine running tell me that the charging circuit is NOT working....
Battery light is a signal from the alternator that charge is below a given voltage , check charging system.
