The tank vent pipe may be blocked or kinked, it usually branches off the main tank filler pipe and can be seen from under the car.

My 05 CV had the same problem, by raising the pump nozzle about an inch or two after inserting, the tank fills up normally.

Turn the nozzle to a different ancle. If the gas is being directed ontu a turn in the fill pipe, turning the nozzle will change the flow path.

There is an anti-syphon device in the filler tube. They can build up back pressure if you put too much gas flow in at the same time. Or there is debris clogging the device.

Diagnose gas tank fill problem

The vent in the filler neck is more than likely sticking. That is if you are having trouble filling the tank up, or if it fills too slow. Also is there a check engine light on? Try and describe the problem when filling tank. ie: tank fills slowly, cannot fill tank, gas splashes back when filling.

I have a 1999 Ford Escort Wagon. The gas tank will fill about 3/4 full and then the gas hose shut down. It then takes about ten minutes to get the rest of the gas into the tank. What is the problem?

on the wagon thay made the vent breather for tank when filling to long unfortunitly their nothing you can do other than feed it really slow backing the pump hose off just alittle but not always affective.

2003 crown vic check engine light on and can't fill gas tank to fast or it comes out bottom of car?

Might have a leak in the fuel filler neck. either the neck itself has a hole (rust?) or the short rubber hose that connects the neck to the fuel tank is bad. Normally the fuel system is sealed, if the gas cap is loose, for example, that will cause a check engine light. I think you have a hole somewhere in the tank or filler neck that is causing this.
If you can examine it from underneath, you might be able to see the problem, look for stains from the gas. If you can see the problem, it should not be hard to fix.

Have a 97 crown vic and everytime I turn a corner

I would look under your car and look for gas stain's, it's either going to be the filler or vent hose's or the o-ring where the fuel pump goes into the gas tank.

When I fill-up my ford contour the gas pump keeps clicking off. can only put in a little gas at a time

Check the vent tube which is alongside the gas fill tube. It's either kinked, bent, pinched, or some how blocked, not allowing easy flow of gas into the tank. Once the tube is open, you will not have trouble. You don't give the year, it's possible it needs to be replaced (comes as a unit with the fill tube) if rusting badly.

2004 hyundai accent. trouble filling gas tank

I have a 2005 Hyundai Accent, It is not possible to fill the tank if you are letting the petrol pump run at full speed.Trying to fill up quickly it will only build up pressure and cut off. Next time you fill up just pull the petrol pump handle half way, it will take longer to fill but you wont get the blow back. Modern petrol pumps are getting quicker all the time.Hope this helps you.

Ford Windstar 2001 Gas filling problem

The fule tank vent tube is blocked/clogged. It's the little hole next to the filler hose that invites spiders that clog it up. Blow out the tube and it fixes the problem.
