The speedometer will stop working which in turn the transmission stops shifting normally. I have to run the car up to 3500 to 4500 rpm's before it will shift and when it does it goes from 2nd to 4th, After this happens I then have to downshift manually which brings the tranny down into 2nd gear and when the rpm's are around 3000 I will upshift and the tranny goes from 2nd to 4th gear and runs great on the hiway and then somedays the tranny will shift like it doesn't have a problem at all. I've asked around many shops and the best answer they can give me without hooking up to a machine is the speed sensor. Can you help me with this problem?

Make sure all the connectors are connected to the transmission input and output shaft sensors. Also, check to see if the vehicle speed sensor is connected as well as the range switch. If all are connected, disconnect both battery cables from the battery and hold the positive cable and the negative cable to each other for about 30 seconds. Doing this drains the capacitor in the ECM and resets the system. Reconnect the cables to see if problem is still present.
Sounds like the speed sensor stopped working. Check the connector for it (it's at the back of the transmission near the drive shaft), the connector pins might be corroded or dirty. Be sure to check all the associated wiring as well.
there is a regulator for the display brightness, you may have it turn'd down or it has stopped working;. it controls the brightness at which the dash lights are. usually has a speedo sign on it. goes up and down. it works with the main light and is conecter to them on the same lighting board if it has gone then a new light swtch control switch will be needed.
You will need the help of a transmission repair shop or the dealer, there is a serious transmission problem and it will require special test equipment and training to find the cause, which is likely a wiring harness issue.
Hi:
This same thing happened to my daughter,s car, and it ended up being fixed with a transmission speed sensor. This sensor not only runs the speedometer, it helps tell the transmission when to shift too.
I had the same problem with ABS light and speedometer, I was told that it is the transmission control module. It has not yet stopped shifting but I have had times where it just wont stay running. It will start and then stall. Hope this helps.
VSS (vehicle speed sensor) Tells the PCM (computer) the speed of the vehicle so the PCM can make the proper information to the TCM (transmission control module) to shift.
YOU are goin gto need a scan tool NOt a code reader to monitor the VSS to see what it is putting out for speed when the car is moving But I believe you need a VSS but do not not Go out and buy one until you have had it tested , and can positively confrim it is bad first. Please rate this a fixya if you find this advice helpful, Thanks Randy
